<i>Aj-ts’íib or el letrado</i> ? Authorial Identity in Gómez Navarrete’s Bilingual Maya Poetry

Latin America is witnessing a revival in the literary production of indigenous languages, yet contemporary writers must often negotiate between different cultural understandings what literature should be. The purpose this article to take one bilingual poem, composed Yucatec Maya and Spanish, as case study writerly conflict paradigm ts’íib ‘Western’ ideal letrado. written by Javier Abelardo Gómez Navarrete (1942-2018), entitled ‘K’u’uk’um kaan’ its version ‘Serpiente de regio plumaje’ Spanish. Through linguistic hermeneutic analysis key extracts, argues that Navarrete’s poem can be read an exploration it means writer twentieth twenty-first centuries, terms antagonistic mutually constitutive relationship categories
